LOL… Don’t start rumors…lol. They were close but not THAT close! Mahalia and Aretha’s mother Barbara Franklin were very good friends and fellow Gospel songstresses in the Golden Age of the genre. Aretha grew up knowing Mahalia as not just a Gospel legend and musical idol…but a family friend. Both Aretha and Mahalia touched parts of the human soul that very few artists can reach with their music and I thank God for the two of them ALL the time.
