i think people mistake calvinism. piper says in another video that he believes BOTH in the all power all controling God AND free will and freedom of choice. albiet in the same video he admits he doesnt know how it works cause of a puny human mind. which i in turn share this belief
Yeah you’re right eh. These ‘God controls everything and we have no free will’ types forget about Jonah and the whale. We make our own choices we live our own lives, God only intervenes when hes has to, or sometimes at our request.

I would have to respectfully disagree though.
I dont believe piper would say this because YES God IS sovereign but He did not CAUSE this terrible thing. Yes He did allow it. (To make Himself look glorious in the praise received in the midst of that loss.)

Do you not believe God is sovereign over all things, including death, and tragedies? Is calvinism just a bad taste in your mouth? I am not up to speed on all that John Piper has said, but him being a calvinist, makes his theology, closer to Biblical doctrine than most.

So many do not understand why God wants us to prosper and they make messages that twist it, like this man in the video. I’m sorry but this is all out of context of what the heart of the message really means. interpetation is important. God wants us to be blessed to be a blessing. When we love God we turn around and give out our abundance to those in need. We are full of compassion.
John Piper is speaking out against luring people to receive Christ for material gain. This is a perverted gospel. The motive for receiving Christ is for the forgiveness of sin against a holy God, not temporary blessing. Once we are born into the family of God by the new birth, can we learn God’s way to be blessed and be a blessing to others, as Piper said – to give our time, money and lives to others. Therefore I agree with the last four sentences you wrote, but not the first two.

people always get this backwards, they say “oh, piper says this, but he is a calvinist, so he’s contradicting himself.”
In reality it is the other way around. THIS is what John Piper believes (believe me, i go to his church)! Calvinist is a tag that people have put on John Piper when in fact, Piper wont refer to himself as a calvinist. People should look at his message rather than the tag!
Actually, John Piper clearly calls himself a calvinist. I have nothing wrong with that, and I have nothing wrong with this message, and I love John Piper, but you might want to watch “Why are Calvinists so Negative? (John Piper).”
