i am the biggest loser on youtube, thank you and goodnight
Piper
why don’t you go to the thriftstore and buy a tatered shirt?
This is what Paul is talking about when he says in Phillipians 1:21, “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” We aren’t living here to get as much of the empty temporal wealth as we can, we aren’t given Christ so that we might have short-term, ultimately dead happiness. We are blessed with Christ that we might endure all things in life with real joy, and in doing so become the sort of people that truly glorify God.
As usual, John Piper is right on !
Praise God for the truth whether people want to hear it or not!
How do you know that he doesn’t go to thriftstores?
So true!
Don’t listen to people quoting the Bible, READ IT FOR YOURSELF LEST YOU BE MISLED!
1 Tim 6:17 goes on to say;
“Instruct those WHO ARE RICH in this present world NOT to be conceited, or to FIX THEIR HOPE on the UNCERTAINTY OF RICHES, but on GOD who RICHLY SUPPLIES us with ALL THINGS
to ENJOY,
to do GOOD, to be rich in good works, (can’t do much for others if u r broke!) TO BE GENEROUS & READY TO SHARE.”
Abraham is in Heaven!
Genesis 13:2
Now Abram was VERY RICH in livestock, in SILVER & in GOLD.
@3:11 this man ask “why would he say that?” well, let’s look in the Bible, what just happened?
Jesus, tested the rich young ruler who asked ‘what must I do to enter the kingdom of Heaven?” Jesus’ 1st answer WAS NOT sell all your possessions, take up your cross & follow me. Sensing the young ruler put MORE FAITH in his riches than God, he tested him & the rich young ruler FAILED THE FAITH TEST. He walked away dismayed.
IT WASN’T ABOUT MONEY, IT WAS ABOUT FAITH!
Don’t you think that if the prosperity doctrine was indeed true that people like Paul who had tremendous Faith would have had ample wealth, would have had no ‘thorn in his flesh’. We aren’t all destined to be free of disease, rich, prosperous. Many of the early church were persecuted and killed because of their Faith. If Faith is the entity that gives us wealth and health, then why has it cost so many so much.
You also wrote “Don’t listen to people quoting the Bible” but you then go on to quote 2 pieces of scripture.
Ephesians 1:3 – Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.
It is God’s choosing who gets what blessings. We can’t earn it, jsut like we don’t earn our salvation. It is a gift from God.
I do remember a clip of him saying that he got the jacket he was wearing from Goodwill.
In any case, what about the point of his message? Material wealth is not the point of the gospel, rather the saving of souls from sin because Jesus died for us.
amen. people who try to justify wealth with Scripture and people being led by wealth and not by Scripture. one of the reasons money is so prevalent in Scripture, because God knows people trust it more than Him. even Solomon, with all his wealth wrote the book of Ecclesiastes later in his life and what did he call it, vanity if vanities. it isn’t a sin to have money, but it is a sin to covet it or instead of making Christ your treasure, make Christ your stepping stone to treasure. grace and peace
The devastation of aquiring wealth is not limited to personal impedement of consciousness.
The effect of personal wealth aquisition is far reaching, very far beyond the direct implications of targeting the poverty stricken in the world for the message of health, wealth and prosperity. Within the process of globalization, many of our daily actions affect the most downtrodden in the world in ways we don’t even realize. Ignorance of this fact is not excusable.
Amen, money can do harm if not knowing how to use it for good. But just acccumulating it for the sake of it.
two examples of loving money to the detrement of people is Al Gore and George Soros.
He’s of a bit. Making money USUALLY involves being honest, offering a great product, having a great reputation. According to JP Morgan, money flows from character and trust. New products make life better, cure disease, give people more freedom. The question is how will we use this wealth, freedom and power. That’s the real issue.
this man is solid. he knows his stuff
“money flows from character and trust.”
rather money flows from the PERCEPTION of trust and character.
Honestly, I think it’s a shame anyone has to point out the obvious fraud perpetrated by these charlatan, snake oil selling, faux “men of god”. If any sheep would read the words of the Messiah in the Gospel text, these minions of the adversary would be as a window. Following the wrong shepherd is the fault of the sheep for not knowing his masters voice. That being said, this man’s criticism is well placed.
John Piper has one major problem, however. By 99% of the world’s standards and by 99.99% of people who have ever lived, John Piper is considered a very rich man. Consider that much of the world is living off a dollar a day and concerned where there next meal is coming from. Shouldn’t Piper find it bothersome that most people in Africa will go to hell because no one ever told them about Jesus, all the while he is in the richest country the world has ever seen?
I’m sure he does feel bad. I don’t get the point? Sorry. (That’s not sarcastic. Please actually explain
)
Um… most people in Africa have heard of Jesus.
And people don’t go to hell because they have not heard of Jesus. People go to hell because they are sinners.
Also, it isn’t hard to make a lot of money in the USA compared to other countries. It is rather easy.
Furthermore the cost and standard of living is a lot higher.
You have no way of knowing what Piper does to help others in need, thus your “objection” is not an objection at all.
Sorry, iilwjcancm, my post was confusing. I’ll restate. It is a fact that many tribes in Africa and in other places have never heard of Jesus, and their only hope is for a missionary to tell them about Jesus. Right? I don’t think a true believer in Jesus, heaven, and hell could live safely in Minneapolis and watch while millions go to hell in Africa and other places. I understand that this thinking would rule most self-identifying Christians out, but the Bible does say the way is narrow.
