In his sermon on the Emergent Church, Driscoll takes a few minutes to define the real gospel.

It’s “DJ Jazzy Jesus”…he’s wearing that shirt to make fun of the fact that we’ve turned Jesus into that in America. He’s commented on that over and over. Obviously, he’s mocking things like that.

  • daleyboy77 says:

I have to question the wisdom of this man here …is that really an appropraite way to mock something ?…Somehow I do not think so…But thanks for your attempt at an explanation.

  • boboc2 says:

    How is that considered blasphemy?

  • daleyboy77 says:

You really have to ask ??

  • PianoMan8912 says:

He sometimes uses his shirts to pose an idea about modern views of Christ that are (or are not) so true. Its a perfectly acceptable form of teaching using media to guide the ultimate questions….

  • daleyboy77 says:

Im not convinced but lets hope for his sake that God thinks so.

  • remorsecode says:

Wait, wait, you question the wisdom of a man who just said those things?

    Are you insane?

  • daleyboy77 says:

Not insane just very carefull who I follow. This guy a few months ago said that Joel Osteen was his Christian brother and a few days ago commended his other Christian brother Rick Warren for his speech at the inauguration.

Either he has very low discernment equal to that of a tadpole or he is working to the same agenda…Either way it is extremely worrying.

  • mrob4031 says:

The Joel Osteen comment was in the middle of a critique of everything Joel preaches on. Rick Warren is a Christian who had the courage to pray a controversial prayer in front of the world in Jesus’ name. Does Mark agree with everything Warren says? Obviously not. That means he can’t thank him for standing for Christ?

Encouraging fellow Christians, even those you disagree with or who have error, is gracious. Your reductionism of “no discernment or complete agreement” is misleading I think.

  • daleyboy77 says:

His comment was not “In the middle” of anything…it was right at the begining of a sermon he did regarding Osteens teaching.

Your view that we should be gracious to those that make errors (If I pick you up correctly) is very dangerous and only gives credance to those wolves in sheeps clothing that are very deliberately trying to lead people astray. Benny Hinn makes the odd error too …should we overlook his errors and welcome him as a Christian brother also ?………….continued

  • daleyboy77 says:

Or lets put it this way….If you were given a bag of apples and were told that one of them had been laced with cyanide ….would you eat any of them ?

Think aright …despise false teaching and you will do well .

  • daleyboy77 says:

Yes he did say that Joel Osteen’s teaching was wrong …However he said that he believes that Osteen is saved and a Christian brother.

I for one could not sit under the teaching of a man that can make a gross error like that.

  • daleyboy77 says:

Since having eternal life is to know God and His Son …John 17 : 3

And Osteen very obviously does not know God and His Son, he cannot have eternal life and therefore cannot possibly be saved.

Driscolls “willingness to give the benefit of the doubt” to some very obvious wolves in sheeps clothing is I say again worrying.

I really like what this guy is saying, but I don’t like the ‘graven image/idol’ picture he’s got on his shirt… I don’t care if he’s doing it to make a good point, he could do it in a way that’s not giving us an incorrect image of Christ (and therefore, an idol), that’s my two cents at least).
Again, though, I do love the succinct (but powerful) and Biblical presentation of the Gospel. But I guess if he’s wearing that shirt, I’d rather just have the audio.

    God bless you all,
    -Al

    I agree with you!

  • neilmarcusrichardson says:

I am a big Mark Driscoll fan but I agree this T-shirt is a mistake.

  • Insaneplanetman says:

Do you have a problem because it depicts Jesus… or are you against it because Jesus did not in fact use turn tables while in earthly ministry?

  • sac78008 says:

Other than his comment about paying a debt to God, it’s a three-minute paraphrase of the Nicene Creed.

  • Cadet44642 says:

I think that it is the turn tables.LOL

  • jesusfreakrkg says:

yes… but as he is a Calvinist… doesn’t it make sense that Jesus is a DJ in charge?

  • h4lfl1ng says:

An idol is something you put above God, not just a picture. It can be anything. Your wife, time, work, food, hobbies…, life.

  • crazy4carolyn says:

You believe in a fairy tale then!

  • preacherboy85 says:

The Greek word for idolatry comes from two words. 1. “eidolon” is an image. 2. “latriea” The first word means image and the second word means worship. I do not agree with the shirt that Driscoll is wearing, but it is not because I think it is idolatry. I think it is complete disrespect for the Savior. Christ turning the tables in the temple was Him cleaning out the house of God. Something that I am very sure Christ would do in most churches in America if he was here today.
